Marston

Here I am Rune
Distance 6.6 miles
Total 2958 Locks  154 Tunnels
Running total mileage 4310.5 miles

Moving on from Dutton bank today we’ve passed through Anderton (with the usual stop at the sanitary station) and onto the Lion Salt works that we have passed a few times but never been into. That was partly because they have an old brine tank outside with the advice “open May to September” painted on it, apparently not so, the museum was open so we took a trip around. I’d never really given much thought to the production of salt but it is more complex than I realised with different qualities of salt created dependent upon the temperature the brine is boiled at. Many years ago in a previous employment I used to deliver salt and now, after all these years, I’ve found out what PDV(pure dried vaccum) salt is, it is the process of production. They boil the brine under lower pressure so that it boils at a lower temperature.

The forecast for tomorrow is good and hopefully we should be back to Middlewich above Big Lock to be clear of the closure on Monday.
